Parents know what’s good for their kids, which is why we organized play-dates, pushed them to join school clubs and youth groups, and even planned that scourge of parent-hood, the slumber party. Children are healthiest and happiest when they’re social – and so are adul...

Lately, my adventures have mostly been in my head – and no, I’m not going crazy, though some days my Mr. might say otherwise. I’m dedicating every moment I can to finishing a revision of the novel I started working on more than a year ago. My goal is to make it as good...

It’s my favorite night of the week – date night! I can’t emphasize enough how important these special nights have been in helping me make the transition from constantly busy parent, to empty-nester. When the kids were growing up, it seems that every weekend was filled...

My favorite books when I was a girl were Laura Ingalls Wilder’s, Little House books. I had the complete set and I read them again and again. I also loved the television series and watched weekly to see who would be blinded next. I was always very intrigued by the thing...

Tonight is date night! When our kids lived at home, our date nights ranged from seldom to never. We were consumed with the kid’s myriad activities, volunteering, and work (money being somewhat essential to raising three kids and sending them to college). Our time toget...

Let’s face it, work is a kill-joy. Even if you love your job, or find meaning in it, it’s just so daily. I switched careers and became a teacher a couple of years ago, and even though I find my work fulfilling, I’d much prefer to win the lottery and not have to work at...

Tonight, we’re adventuring in downtown Tulsa – about 10 minutes from our house.  An adventure is simply an unusual or exciting experience, and you can have one as easily 10 minutes from your house as you can half-way across the country on vacation. I love going away on...

Children are unpredictable. You can raise a child, secure in the fact that they're going to become a concert cellist, and instead, they become a highly competent business consultant. It’s an amazing outcome, but still unpredictable. I’ve known other people who are grea...

It’s a Friday night and my Mr. and I are adventuring in Sand Springs, OK.  Hiking is one of the activities our family enjoyed on vacations, and my husband and I still love to go on our own. The Keystone Ancient Forest is open for a rare night hike, and we want to take...

It’s Memorial Day Weekend and we’re adventuring today in Muskogee, OK, inspiration for Merle Haggard’s great American classic, Okie from Muskogee.

I’m proud to be an Okie from Muskogee

Hi, I'm Jennifer.

My husband and I have been empty-nesters for several years now. Our three adult children are scattered from “sea to shining sea” (literally). We love our empty nest, but we didn’t at first. More accurately, I should say, I didn’t. I had a big problem letting my nestlings go.

For my husband and myself, developing an adventure mindset has been the key to loving our empty-nest, living a healthy life, and allowing our fledglings to do the same. In this blog, I aim to offer ideas to spark your adventure mindset, by sharing some of my activities. So, whether you’ve been an empty-nester for many years, or you're new to the game, dive in, the water’s fine.
